Yard Trimmings Collection / Compost Program
Collection Day & Service Guidelines

The City of Allen offers service to residents for the collection of yard trimmings, which is picked up weekly on your designated trash day. Allen composts all yard waste for beneficial reuse since grass clippings and organic lawn materials are banned from the landfill. Free compost is available to residents at the City of Allen Jupiter Road Compost Site.

Place yard trimmings curbside by 7 a.m. on your designated trash collection day.

Include bagged grass clippings, bagged leaves, plant materials, and small cuttings.

Use biodegradable paper lawn bags that can be purchased at local grocery and home improvement stores.

City has set a maximum weekly limit of fifteen (15) yard waste bags for residential customers.

No plastic bags will be accepted.

Tree and brush trimmings must be tied into 4’ x 2’ bundles secured with biodegradable string, twine or rope for collection.

City has set a maximum weekly limit of seven* (7) bundles. *Excess amount may require special scheduling; restrictions apply see guidelines under Bulk Yard Trimming and Alternative Disposal Options.

Corrugated cardboard boxes need to be empty, flattened, stacked, and bound with string, twine or rope

Each bundle or bag must weigh less than 40 pounds.

Place within clear sight of your trash cart, no closer than two feet.

Yard trimmings do not include dirt, gravel, rock, concrete or sod.
Bulk Yard Trimmings Collection

Once a month service for residents having a large amount of loose brush (not to exceed 3 cubic yards) may call CWD at 972.392.9300 Option 2.

Calls relating to this service must be received by noon on Tuesday for Wednesday collection.

Alternative Disposal Options for Residential Yard Trimmings
The City of Allen offers “do it yourself” yard trimmings disposal for Allen residents to dump two loads per month of yard trimmings at the Custer Road Transfer Station, which is operated by the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD).

Service Guidelines

Two visits per month for trash disposal, and two visits for yard trimmings disposal, allowed for each household.

ID required: Current City of Allen utility bill and Texas driver's license; addresses must match.

All loads must be secured according to State law.

Loads must arrive in a passenger vehicle or pick-up truck. Trailers of any size are also acceptable, as long as they are towed behind a passenger vehicle or pick-up truck. Flat-bed rental trucks are acceptable (see below). Stake bed trucks and box trucks are not acceptable.

This facility and disposal privilege is not intended for what would amount to commercial or business use by Allen residents.

Free compost is available to Allen residents at the following location:

Service Guidelines

Each household is allowed to collect one cubic yard of compost per month from the facility on a first-come first-served basis.

Bring your own shovel and covered container.

This site is unattended and thus relies on the honor system.

Residents that see commercial vehicles taking compost are asked to report the vehicle license number to Donna Kliewer with the City of Allen at 214.509.4551.
This is not a drop off site for branches, yard waste, grass or organic materials. Leaving such material is considered illegal dumping. Dumpers will be prosecuted.

In an effort to prolong the life of our landfill, City Ordinance 1851-7-00 bans landscape material from our waste stream. All of the yard trimmings collected from Allen homes are composted at the Texas Pure regional composting facility in Melissa, Texas. Texas Pure products may be purchased at the following locations:
