Poison Prevention

The Home Safety Council research shows that poisoning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury related death in the home, and yet, found that most families are not taking the appropriate precautions to reduce the risk of poison exposure. Out of the 2.4 million poison exposures reported through the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC), over 90% of them occurred in the home.

If you think someone has ingested poison, call 9-1-1. You can also call the Poison Center Help number at 1.800.222.1222.

Poison prevention is for everyone, not just children. Be sure to check the links below to learn some simple guidelines to help keep you and your family safe from poison exposures around your home. Contact the Public Education Office at 214.509.4413 for more information.
