Adoption
Adopt your next pet from the City’s Animal Shelter! A list of current animals that can be adopted is available at PetFinder.com. You can also view the highlighted dogs and cats up for adoption by accessing “In The Dog House” online from the Animal Shelter’s home page. “In The Dog House” is produced weekly by ACTV, the City’s government access channel.
We have a variety of dogs and cats classified as adoptable. Prospective owners must agree to the following:
* To have the animal spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption or when the animal reaches the age of six months.
* To vaccinate the animal within five days after adoption or by the time the animal reaches the age of four months..
The adoption fee is $70 for all dogs and cats. Adopting owners will be given a voucher that covers sterilization of the animal if required.
In addition to an adoption fee, the animal must be registered on an annual basis.
License fees are:
* Dog/cat/ferret--sterilized . . . $5
* Dog/cat/ferret--unsterilized . . . $10
* Dangerous dog . . . $75
* Replacement tag . . . $2
* Senior discount--dog/cat sterilized . . . $3
* Senior discount--dog/cat unsterilized . . . $5
An Animal Control Officer may refuse an adoption if there is reason to believe that a prospective owner:
* Would not have proper facilities to contain or care for the animal.
* Wants the dog or cat for the purpose of resale or for purposes other than pet ownership.
* Would subject the animal to abandonment or cruelty.
